Mark asks…
Waking my dog in the neighborhood where there are multiple unleashed dogs?
I have a little 5 pound yorkie/chon mix. My neighborhood has a St Bernard, German shepherd mix, 2 lab mixes and 2 pit bull mixes all running loose, my neighbors don’t confine their pets to their properties and complaining about it does no good. My question is how can I safely walk my little dog with all these dogs running loose, as they often run in a pack?

weight answers:
Yep……….baseball bat, or a pistol……………….for the dog and the owner……………

Daniel asks…
I need some facts about GSD/Lab mix?
I have almost decided to get a German Shepherd Lab mix. What are some facts about this dog? Are they good with kids? Are they good with strangers?

weight answers:
Appearance: The Labrashepherd may have the face and back of a Lab with a Shepherd looking underneath and legs.
Life Expectancy: The average life expectancy of the Labrashepherd is the same as that of a Labrador or German Shepherd which is approximately 10 to 12 years.
Size: The Labrashepherd has an average weight of 40 to 100 pounds.
Characteristics: The Labrashepherd loves to chew and has very sharp teeth.
Personality: The Labrashepherd has the caution of a German Shepherd Dog but does not bounce off walls like a Lab.
Temperament: The Labrashepherd is a loving, tolerant and even-tempered dog with the German Shepherd caution and shyness expecially when meeting new people and Lab companionship. They are typically very calm and can be skiddish or submissive around other dogs and strangers.
Family Dog (kids): The Labrashepherd makes an excellent family dog. They are typically good with children but can get rambunctious when they get excited. As with any dog they should be supervised around young children.
Companionship: The Labrashepherd is a very loyal and loving dog who makes a great companion.
Head: The head of the Labrashepherd may more closely resemble that of the Labrador Retriever with a longer muzzle and other German Shephe
Hope it helps!

Steven asks…
Do German Shepherds like to play fetch?
I really want a dog that will play fetch but it seems like everyone and their little sister has a lab, so I might get a german shepherd or rescue a german shepherd/lab mix. From what I understand they’re wonderful dogs, but are they natural retrievers? Or do only some of them really have a ‘fetch drive’? Thanks.

weight answers:
My GSD was a fetching maniac!! He would even climb trees if the toy was stuck in the tree. He would fetch until he dropped, literally. We would have to make him stop and rest, or he would do it until he dropped.
He was a great Frisbee dog, too! (only don’t use neon green frisbees..they can’t see them. Lol)
Added: Ours loved to swim, too..and jump off the board.

Charles asks…
Do they make sleeping pills for dogs? Can a dog take a human sleeping pill?
He’ll be two March first. A lab and german shepherd mix. i dont know his weight, sorry.
Yeah. Sedatives would be the word. It’s not that I want to give it to him every night because he’s hyper, I walk him for at least everyday. He has a hot spot on his tail and he sleeps with and e-collar. SInce he can’t reach it he cries and barks all night.
Sorry…I walk for at least a mile everyday. But he still comes home tired.

weight answers:
Based on your additional details. You need to get your vet to give you some tranquilizers/sedatives and keep in mind that the vet will tell you the same thing I just did. You can only give them occasionally, not every night. They aren’t good for the dog and will cause him to be drowzy and/or woozy for hours the next day. This is probably why the vet didn’t give you any in the first place. The sedatives the vet gives you are usually to be used only for a dog that has an intense fear of, say, storms or something that only happens once in a while, where it would be safe to sedate the dog because he’s only taking a pill once every couple months maybe.
